Mugisha Allan (the late) sometimes referred to as Allan The Cantankerous Mugisha or Allan The Cantankerous one was a broadcaster in Kampala Uganda. The Comical Mugisha as he sometimes called himself died in June 2007 of lung failure at Nsambya Hospital.
For the record, Allan’s real name was Mugisa coming from Hoima but many knew him as Mugisha.
He was the son of veteran columnist now the late Dr. Tumusiime Rushedge a.k.a Tom Rush. Tumusiime Rushedge who was born in 1941 and died 2008, was a Ugandan surgeon, pilot, novelist, cartoonist and newspaper columnist for the new vision under the moniker “Old Rush”.
Mugisha was a Makerere University-trained Food Scientist having partially attended University with a bachelor degree in food science and technology. He dropped out of his degree in the third year to start working at Capital Fm. Before joining Makerere, Mugisha attended Makerere College School.
The Cantankerous one was probably the most humorous radio presenter of his time and arguably the most fired radio personality too. At the height of his radio career, with fame and some money in his pocket, The Cantankerous one became an alcoholic.
He was practically jumping from one bar to another the same way he was in one job suspension to another.
In a bit to stop chain-smoking and alcohol addiction, Allan tried to get saved in June 2003. His life as a born again did not last that long as the addictions overpowered his will.
Allan was married to Maggie with whom they had a son Albert Jason Mugisha. On Christmas Eve 2005, the couple lost their son to kidney failure after a short hospitalization.
He was buried at Bulindi in Hoima district on the 27th June 2007.
