When Did Uganda Airlines Start Flights?

The Current Uganda Airlines had its maiden Commercial flight on Wednesday 28th August at 0605Hrs.

This Flight from Entebbe International Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Kenya had Only eight passengers on board.

The airline left Entebbe at 6:05am and landed five minutes before its scheduled landing time of 0705Hrs.

On this maiden flight, the eight passengers included businessman Peter Ssenkungu, Workers’ Union leader Usher Wilson Owere, his wife Evelyn Were, Kwezi Tabaro, Joseph Kasigazi, and journalists Alon Mwesigwa, Olive Nakatudde and Gyegenda Ssemakula.

The bombardier plane was Piloted by captain Charles Karabarinde and Co-pilot Denis Chotum. The purser was Asiimwe Neema and cabin crew members Ronnie Kasemiire and Johnson Mugume. 



Other two pilots in training, a one Drazu Tina and Rashid Cheboy were also on this flight carrying out observations.

Before this first commercial flight, the airline had on 27th August had a similar flight to the Kenyan Capital with government officials and other influential Ugandans as the official launch of its operations.

From its Hub in Entebbe, the airline runs scheduled flights to Bujumbura, Dar-es-Salam, Juba, Kilimanjaro, Mogadishu, Mombasa and Nairobi.



At the Launch of its operations, Uganda Airlines had only two Bombardier CRJ900ER planes with another two Airbus A330-800neo yet to be delivered by the manufacturer.

Uganda Airlines is the flag carrier of Uganda. The company is a revival of the older Uganda Airlines which operated from 1977 until 2001.
